Private Medical Insurance

Private medical insurance pays for treatment for an acute illness, injury or disease which can be cured. Typically, the policy covers:

  • Professional fees - consultants, anaesthetists and surgeons but not your GP.
  • Hospital charges - nursing, accommodation and operating theatre fees.
  • Specialist treatments - physiotherapy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
  • Drugs used in hospital, dressings, x-rays and necessary tests.
  • Home nursing and out-patient treatment.

Many policies also pay cash (around £50 per night) if you are treated as an NHS patient.

Some policies also cover emergency medical treatment while you are travelling abroad.
